Wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa has been testing Wicetec’s technology since 2023 in its SGRE 5.X-170 wind turbine located in Västernorrland County, Sweden. The turbine is equipped with Wicetec’s carbon fabric heaters, while blade heating control is managed using Wicetec’s BTE virtual sensor technology.
The heaters are fully integrated into the blade structure and lightning protection system. Confirmed lightning strikes have caused no damage to either the blades or the heating elements.
Blade heating controlled with Wicetec BTE has proven to be a reliable solution. The overall winter performance of the wind turbine has been excellent, despite the site’s harsh environmental conditions.
