Lac Alfred, Quebec, Canada 2016–2017
Lac Alfred wind farm consists of 150 turbines, commissioned in 2013, originally without any anti- or de-icing solutions. Due to the excessive losses caused by icing, the owners of the wind farm had searched for a solution for icing problem which can be retrofitted. Because of proven technology and operative experience of a local wind turbine maintenance company, Wicetec WIPS -system was selected to solve the problem.
After Blaiken experiences, Dongfang won a project for Russia, developed by Fortum, for 14 turbines with WIPS technology, licensed by Wicetec. This project is the first commercial wind farm in Russia.
Blaiken wind farm, located in Northern Sweden, consists of 99 turbines. It is one of the largest wind farms in Europe. Blaiken Vind is owned by a joint venture of big utilities Skellefteå Kraft and Fortum, experienced in cold climate conditions in Northern Europe. Thus, the wind turbine suppliers were required to have a solution for the blade icing problem.
The very first industrial scale carbon fabric blade heating technology was demonstrated in Olos wind farm in Northern Finland. Olos wind farm consists of five wind turbines with 600 kW rating, supplied by Bonus.
